I attended the Diabetes UK conference with the IBEX group between 8th and 10th March 2017. This was my first professional conference and I was extremely excited. I was fortunate to have an abstract accepted and to be able to present some of my research to fellow researchers and clinicians with an interest in diabetes. The conference had a strong clinical focus which put my research into context and made me realise the importance of understanding the basic science of diabetes. In addition, Prof Noel Morgan, my first supervisor, was given the great privilege of presenting the Dorothy Hodgkin Lecture. Noel presented the group’s advances in understanding Type 1 diabetes. I felt very honoured to be part of such an amazing group of scientists who are working at the forefront of research to better understand the aetiology of diabetes.
